office covering photocopying, faxing, filing, Ausdoc, binding and laminating.
- Reception and telephonist procedures.
- Accounts procedures including office and trust accounting.
- Business letters.
- Style manuals.
- Computer functions.
Court Structure and the Legal System
- Role of the Courts.
- Court personnel.
- Government offices including the Australian Securities and Investment
Commission (ASIC), Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT),
Water Boards, State Revenue Office, Office of Fair Trading and Business Affairs,
Land Titles Office and the Liquor Licensing Commission.
Wills and Probate
- Requirements for making a will, definitions required for will making,
general clauses and meanings, procedures relating to will making and related power
of attorney requirements.
- Procedures and requirements for obtaining probate and letters of administration
including definitions relating thereto, terminology and documentation.
- Utilising the LawPerfect system undertaking a case study.
- Practical display and practical exercises in relation to wills and probate matters.
- Attend the Probate Office and undertake the required procedures relating to
searching and lodging of the documentation.
Family Law
- Procedures and documentation relating to divorce, final orders and child support
including precedent documentation, definitions, terminology and administration duties.
- Children's issues.
- Utilising the LawPerfect system undertaking a case study.
- Practical display and practical exercise in relation to family law.
Litigation - Common and Commercial
Common Law Litigation (Civil Litigation)
- Common law litigation relates to the law of disputes between individuals.
This area is covered in detail and includes the terminology and definitions
involved in litigation. Procedures relating to a dispute, claim and/or debt.
Procedures for handling a file on behalf of the plaintiff and defendant are
undertaken utilising the appropriate court documentation.
Criminal Law
- An overview of what criminal law is and its effect and result on society
including a description of the types of crimes, penalties and defences.
Definitions and terminology relating to criminal law. An overview of the
Court structure in Victoria. Police rights and regulations.
WorkCover
- WorkCover relates to the rights of employees whilst employed. This
module covers terminology and definitions of WorkCover. Procedures relating
to a claim. Rights of both the employer and employees and the documentation
and procedures involved therein.
Personal Injuries
- Terminology, procedures and documentation relating to a personal injuries
claim including the appropriate correspondence to arrange medical appointments.
Bankruptcy
- Bankruptcy relates to individuals being unable to pay for their debts.
This area of law covers the procedures relating to both creditors and debtors'
petitions to enter into bankruptcy. Terminology and definitions are included
as well as the rights and affects of becoming a bankrupt.
Magistrates' Court
- Undertaking a Magistrates' Court matter as a case study relating to debts,
property damage, both defended and not defended.
County Court
- Undertaking a County Court matter as a case study including procedures
for a matter, both defended and not defended.
Supreme Court
- Overview of the Supreme Court with regard to the interlocutory steps,
court processes and documentation preparation.
Court Filing
- Attend the courts and instruction on the procedures relating to
lodging of documentation at the Supreme, County and Magistrates' Court.
Document Preparation
- Case study utilising the LawPerfect precedent system.
- Practical display and practical exercise relating to all areas of litigation.
Commercial Property and Corporate Law
- Commercial law relates to the law of contracts. This is a wide and
specialised area and covers many aspects of legal. Corporate law
relates to company law. In these modules both the definitions and
terminology are extensively covered plus document layout with special
regard to the appropriate rules and regulations applicable.
- Case study utilising the LawPerfect precedent system.
- Practical display and practical exercise relating to commercial property and corporate law.
Conveyancing
- Residential conveyancing means the buying and selling property of houses,
vacant land, apartments, flats and units.
- In this area extensive coverage is made of the procedures relating to a sale of
a property including the documentation involved, the procedures and the time limits
with special regard to the rules and regulations covering this area.
- Also extensively covered are the procedures relating to a purchase of a property
and includes the documentation involved, the procedures and the time limits.
- Settlement procedures are included within this area.
- Mortgage documentation is also covered.
- Students will produce two residential conveyancing files from initial instruction
to settlement. One file for a vendor and one file for a purchaser.
- Practical display and practical exercise in relation to conveyancing matters.
- Case study utilising LawPerfect for the production of conveyancing precedent documents.
- Researching government offices which includes the Land Titles Office, State Revenue
Office, Office of Fair Trading and Business and the Australian Securities and Investment
Commission.
Equal Opportunity and Discrimination
- This module takes a look at Victoria's Equal Opportunity Act. It focuses on the
grounds for discrimination; age, disability, sex, politics, race, religion, marital status.
- Complaint procedures.
Secretarial Keyboard Skills
- Extensive training on accuracy and increasing speed is included, if required.
- Typing and word processing of legal correspondence and documentation relating to
the areas of law studied in theory.
- Dicta typing, introduction to computers and word processing.
- Word processing training on Word for Windows 2003 which is extensively used
within the legal environment. In this area functions relating to the necessary
production of legal documentation will be extensively covered.
- LawPerfect training. LawPerfect is a legal precedent documentation package
utilised widely with legal firms. Please note: if undertaking course by correspondence
attendance at our office will be required for LawPerfect training.
